Sofiane Oumiha, the three-time IBA World Champion and two-time Olympic Silver Medallist, leads a star-studded line-up of boxers taking part in this new competition. A boxing league is being established in China by the International Boxing Association (IBA) and Kunlun Star.

The league will feature top boxers and will kick off on 16 September. The two weight divisions, 63.5kg and 71kg, will be held at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium. The league has a prize fund of $2 million USD (£1.808 million). The first categories to be introduced will be the 63.5kg and 71kg divisions, which will kick off on 16 November 2024 in the Chinese capital at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium.

One of the unique attractions of the competition is the substantial prize fund. Around $2 million (€1.8 million) will be shared between the competitors. Following the draw, the quarter-final pairings will be announced and the competition will begin in a knockout format. The quarter-final bouts are scheduled to go over 6 rounds, while the semi-final and final bouts will be contested over 10 rounds.

The line-up includes highly regarded boxers with impressive international careers. Among them is France's Sofiane Oumiha, who recently lost to Cuba's Erislandy Alvarez in the Olympic final in Paris. Also in the line-up are European Games champion Gabil Mamedov of Russia, World bronze medallists Bakhodur Usmonov of Tajikistan, Misheelt Battumur of Mongolia, and African Games champion Mohamed Hamout of Morocco, all in the 63.5kg category. Saidjamshid Jafarov of Uzbekistan is the World silver medallist.

Cuba's Roniel Iglesias, a world champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist, will also be competing, having recently competed in the Havana Champions Night. IBA Pro European Champion Pavel Sosulin of Russia and three-time World Championship bronze medallist Ablaikhan Zhussupov of Kazakhstan are also confirmed. Both will compete in the 71kg category. The participation of two Chinese boxers, one per category, is yet to be confirmed.

Some of the key figures highlighted the importance of this new competition. "We are delighted to partner with Kunlun Star to bring this innovative boxing league to China. This event marks a new era for boxing, where the world's best athletes will showcase their talents in this format on a global stage. We are confident that this league will set new standards for the sport and inspire the next generation of boxers worldwide with such an exceptional line-up of competitors and a significant prize fund,"said IBA President Umar Kremlev.

"The IBA continues to strengthen its position. It is dominating the sport of boxing with brilliant and revolutionary ideas. Evolution and opportunity will remain at the heart of our core business," said IBA Secretary General & CEO, Chris Roberts OBE.

The competition not only brings together top boxers, but also maintains the high standards typically associated with Kunlun Fight's World Max," added Jiang Hua, founder of Kunlun Star.

Sofiane Oumiha also highlighted the launch of this league. He made special mention of Cuban Erislandy Alvarez, his recent opponent in Paris. "I am truly grateful to the IBA for giving me another opportunity to showcase my skills in the ring. The professional format is not new to me and I intend to dominate the ring every time I get the chance. Most of all, I am looking forward to a rematch with Erislandy Alvarez; a reunion in Paris. It's my domain now in the professional set-up and my plan is to surprise him", he said.
