The Belgian double Olympic champion of Paris 2024 debuted his new gold outfit. His bike, socks and helmet shone as brightly as his gold medals in the United Kingdom. They were designed by Specialized, the brand that supplies his Soudal-Quick-Step team.

Remco Evenepoel continues his best season yet. It's only been five years since the Belgian turned professional, but his victories are already numerous. He turned pro when he was still almost a junior. He quickly won major races such as the Clásica de San Sebastián. Since then he has wonthe Vuelta a España, the world championships and major classics such as Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

However, what he achieved in Paris this summer was something special. He became the first man to win both the time trial and road race at an Olympic Games. Only the Dutch rider Leontien Zijlaard van Moorsel had achieved this feat before, in Sydney in the year 2000.

This double success means he can now wear gold. He made his golden debut at the Tour of Britain this week. Thanks to Specialized, he rode a gold bike, with gold stripes on his clothing and a gold helmet. Even his socks were gold.

To complete his outfit, the exceptional cyclist persuaded the UCI to allow him to add gold bands to the rainbow bands on the sleeves of his jersey. In this way, his status as a former world champion and Olympic gold medallist was on full display.

"I had to fight quite a bit to get them, because the UCI insisted that the rainbow bands had priority. However, luckily I got both," Evenepoel told HLN/VTM.

The Belgian rider has little time left in the season, but the Tour of Britain was his first competition since his double gold in Paris. After resting for a month, the British race serves to train for one of the remaining Monuments in 2024, the Tour of Lombardy. Not only is the Italian race in his sights, but also the world championships, which will be held in Zurich this year.

"I am really proud to wear this special jersey. The last few months have been an incredible part of my career. To be the first man to win the Olympic road race and time trial double is something that dreams are made of," he said, as quoted by Cyclingnews.

"To be able to celebrate it with this kit is something that fills me with pride. I would like to thank everyone involved in the process and for marking what happened in Paris in this special way.
