The Paralympian and Netflix star from Italy won her opening 2024 Games duel against Ukrainian Nadiia Doloh on Wednesday and keeps her medal hopes intact.

Beatrice 'Bebe' Vio, who had to have all four limbs amputated when she contracted meningitis at the age of 11, began her Paralympic title defence with a dominant victory in the women's foil category B quarter-final against Doloh, defeating her opponent 15-2 to progress to the semi-final stage.

Vio raced into a 7-0 lead and although Doloh managed to score a point against her, the Italian never looked back.

The 27-year-old is one of the world stars of Paralympism and won gold in the individual foil at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. She uses a special prosthetics to hold her foil, fencing from the shoulder.

After her appearance during the Olympic Games Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, Vio is back in Paris to compete at the Paralympics.

The wheelchair fencer, Paris Fashion Week model, and star of the Netflix documentary on Paralympians ‘Rising Phoenix’ is competing in her third Paralympics. Vio has four medals from her previous two Paralympic Games, winning one in every event she has competed in to date.

At Rio 2016, she conquered individual gold and team bronze, before defending her individual title in Tokyo and upgrading team bronze to silver.

The women's foil category B semi-finals and final are set to take place later Wednesday underneath the ornate domed roof of the Grand Palais, one of the most iconic venues of Paris 2024.
