The Dominican Embassy in France welcomed a delegation from the Dominican Paralympic Committee (COPADOM) as part of the ongoing celebrations for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The visit underscored the support the Dominican community holds for their athletes competing on the international stage.

The reception, which took place on 4 September, was hosted by Johanne Peña, Minister-Counsellor, who greeted Eladio Agramonte, President of COPADOM, Bienvenido Zorrilla, Secretary General, and Alberto Almánzar, Head of Mission for the Dominican Paralympic delegation. Also present were Alejandra Hernández, Minister-Counsellor in charge of business, Carolina Mejía, Minister-Counsellor, and Karen Hernández, Counsellor, standing in for Ambassador Rosa Hernández de Grullón, who is currently in the Dominican Republic on diplomatic matters.

During the event, Johanne Peña conveyed the emotional experiences shared with the Dominican para-athletes and expressed pride in their performance. "It is an immense pride to receive a Dominican delegation participating in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and to convey the support and affection of all Dominicans residing in France," Peña stated.

Eladio Agramonte, President of COPADOM, described the visit as a significant support to the Dominican Paralympic delegation. He emphasised the vital role of diplomatic entities as allies during international sporting events and noted that France has proven to be no exception.

Both Agramonte and Zorrilla, alongside Almánzar, commended the Embassy’s attention to accessibility features, including ramps for wheelchair users, which have been effectively utilised throughout the Games. “We want to thank all the diplomatic staff in France for their invitation and for taking an interest in the delegation competing in the Paralympic Games,” Agramonte remarked.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of the official pin for the Dominican Paralympic delegation, which will be used during the Paris 2024 Games, to the embassy’s Minister-Counsellors. This token of appreciation symbolises the solidarity and encouragement extended to the athletes.

The Dominican delegation continues to compete across various disciplines including para-athletics, para-cycling, para-powerlifting, and para-swimming. The para-taekwondo event, which marked the start of the Dominican participation, concluded on 31 August with Geraldo Castro earning a Paralympic Diploma in the -63 kg category, class K44.
