altNOVEMBER 6 - SCOTLAND'S manager Alex McLeish (pictured) has today joined the opposition to the proposal for a united British team to compete in the 2012 Olympics.

"If you go into the Olympic Games, you go in to win the gold medal," he told The Scotsman in an interview published today.

"It could be a novelty factor but at the same time we wouldn't like our identity to be threatened, and we would like to continue to compete in the top competitions in the world."

"Now I feel that if there was to be a team I don't think that it would be a team strong enough to win the gold medal because of the commitments of the players...I see it as a little bit of a pipe dream."
