Sebastian_Coe_with_House_of_Commons_in_background_April_6_2011April 8 - London Olympic Games chief Sebastian Coe will be in a good position to determine who gets the gongs should 2012 be the great success everyone anticipates - he has been appointed as the new chairman of the Sports Honours Committee.

He succeeds the former UK Sport and England and Wales Cricket Board chief Lord McLaurin and will be joined on the panel in assessing nominations for both the Queen's Birthday and New Year honours by Tim Lamb, the Chief Executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance - formerly the Central Council of Phyiscal Recration (CCPR) - and Tim Phillips, former chairman of the All England Lawn Tennis Club as independent members.

Coe, a vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) with ambitions to succeed President Lamine Diack, has also served as an administrator in other sports.

He was chairman of FIFA's Ethics Committee before resigning so as not to compromise England's World Cup bid, and is a former steward of the British Boxing Board of Control as was his current sparring partner Colin Moynihan, the British Olympic Association chairman.
