Beach_Volleyball_London_2012_test_event_August_11_2011August 19 - A special programme presented by Clare Balding featuring the best of the action from the London Prepares Series is to be shown at the London 2012 Live Sites across the UK this Sunday (August 21) afternoon.

It will feature the best of the action from the Olympic test events that have taken place so far.

The programme, titled Olympic Countdown, will be shown from 1pm to 5.30pm and will feature on BBC 2 as well as at the London 2012 Live Sites.

"A year ahead of the Games, this is a great opportunity for friends and families to come together in their local community and see the best of the action from the Olympic test events," said London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton.

"It will be a great taste of the celebration of elite sport that will take place in the summer of 2012."

The test event action that has taken place so far has been hailed a huge success and the special programme at the weekend will include highlights from the finals of the women's Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball International in Horse Guards Parade, as well as action from the London-Surrey Cycle Classic which saw Britain's Mark Cavendish claim victory on the Olympic cycling road race route.

The programme will also show the key moments from the London International Basketball Invitational, which saw Team GB take on five of the world's top teams in the first test event on the Olympic Park, as well as highlights from the Weymouth and Portland International Regatta 2011 featuring Britain's top sailors.

British pair Alistair Brownlee and Helen Jenkins who triumphed in the men's and women's races respectively at the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series in Hyde Park earlier this month, will also be in the coverage, as will highlights from the Canoe Sprint World Championships in Hungary.

The London 2012 Live Sites themselves will be spread across the UK with 20 big screens already operating at locations including Belfast, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Derby, Dover, Edinburgh, Leeds, Leicester, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Swansea, Swindon, Waltham Forest and Woolwich.

Working with the BBC and local authorities, the London 2012 Live Sites will bring the latest news from London 2012 and each screen is programmed to feature a broad range of UK wide and local content, events and partnerships with community, arts and media organisations.

The sites themselves feature big screens and event spaces in urban centres offering live information, video, news and community events, and will be the destination for news, events and live screenings of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

They are erected and run in partnership between the London 2012 Organising Committee, the BBC and the various cities, in association with London 2012 partners BT and Lloyds TSB, supported by Cisco and the National Lottery through the Olympic Lottery Distributor.
