icss 27-02-12February 27 - Massimiliano Montanari has been appointed as the new director of international cooperation and external relations at the Doha-based International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS).

Montanari has a long career in security and counter terrorism having been employed by the United Nations, working on the 2011 Pan American Games, Cricket World Cup in 2007 and Beijing 2008 Olympics as the head of security for major events.

He will take on the role of liaising with the likes of the UN, Governments and other major national and international bodies.

Montanari will also be involved in developing initiatives such as the upcoming International Sport Security Conference (ISSC) being held in Doha on March 14 and 15.

He has also worked with Brazil, helping prepare security arrangements for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The signing is another coup for the ICSS, who earlier this month announced that they had recruited Chris Eaton, FIFA's head of security, as its new Director of Sport Integrity.

ICSS President Mohammed Hanzab said: "At the ICSS, we are committed to helping event organisers stage safer major sporting events.

"We are delighted that Montanari, with his wealth of experience in foreign affairs and international diplomacy, as well as sport security, has joined the ICSS to help us develop global networks, build knowledge and share best practice in this critical area."
