altMay 29 - Preparations for next year's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi will be the main priority for M S Gill (pictured) he said after being reconfirmed today as India's Youth Affairs and Sports Minister.

He said: "I'm confident we would put things in place well in time.

"Most of the stadiums would be ready by December, even though venues for cycling, swimming and shooting might slip to January-February.

"Money is not an issue."

Gill said the Commonwealth Games Co-ordination Committee is doing its best to meet the infrastructure deadline.

He said: “We have been hammering out things irrespective of each other’s presence.

"The Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dixit has full faith in me.

"We know that if anything goes wrong everyone will be blamed."

Gill was originally appointed in April 2008 when he replaced Mani Shankar Aiyar.

His reappointment was hailed by Suresh Kalmadi, the President of the Indian Olympic Association, who said that he had helped get the Commonwealth Games preparations back on track.

He said: “I thank the Prime Minister for showing his faith in Gill.

"He is the right person for the job with Commonwealth Games round the corner.

"He was associated with the Punjab Olympic Association and his knowledge of sports has helped.

"We are working in tandem in organising the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

"We have had good interaction and work is going full speed.”
