altMay 28 - Brazil, one of the world's strongest judo teams, has announced that they will send a team to compete in the 2009 GB World Cup for men and women at Birmingham in September.

As one of the top judo nations in the World, Brazil boasts three current world champions and won three medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, including a bronze for Leandro Guilheiro (pictured) in the men's lightweight category.

Brazil’s announcement follows a successful visit by the British team to San Paulo to compete in the invitational International Team Challenge, against France and hosts Brazil.

They join 37 other countries due to compete in the event at the National Indoor Arena on September 19 and 20.

It is the first time that the event has featured both men and women and will be the biggest ever held in Britain.

Already considered one of the best staged tournaments in Europe this year’s action will take place over four mat areas.
