altMay 23 - Kipchoge Keino (pictured), the godfather of African distance running, has retained his position as President of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK).

 

Keino, the 1968 Olympic 1500 metres champion and the 1972 3,000m steeplechase gold medallist, is an International Olympic Committee member who has been in charge of the NOCK since 1999.

 

He was re-elected unopposed, as were Peter Nderitu as the first vice-chairman, Francis K Paul as secretary general, James Chacha as assistant secretary general, Fridah Shiorya as treasurer and Stephen soi as assistant treasurer.

 

David Okeyo, the secretary general of Athletics Kenya and a NOKC committee member won the election to become the second vice-chairman.

 

Catherine Ndereba, the four-time Boston Marathon champion and reigning marathon world champion, was re-elected as a committee member alongside John Roberts and Bains who represent the boxing and hockey federations respectively.

 

Ann Njambi was elected women's representative after outpolling incumbent Njeri Onyango 15-11.

 

Paul Tergat, the two-time Olympic 10,000m silver medallist, and Tegla Lorupe, the former world record holder for the marathon, will seat in the committee as athletes' representatives.
