altAUGUST 2 - MORE than £25 million is set to be gambled on the Olympics this month, Britain's leading bookmaker predicted today.

William Hill reported that many punters are betting on how many medals the British team will win.

They are offering 5/6 that they come home with 12 or more gold medals and 5/6 with 34 or more medals of any colour.

Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "At the moment punters are optimistic that the Brits will have a decent Olympics and most of the money is for the team to do well."

Amongst the team members fancied to contest gold medals, they make Philips Idowu 5/4 favourite to win the triple jump, Paula Radcliffe is 6/1 to win the marathon, Christine Ohuruogu 12/1 for the 400m with team-mate Nicola Sanders 40/1.

The bookmaker also make tennis player Andy Murray 16/1 to win the Olympic singles gold and 25/1 to team-up with brother Jamie for Doubles Gold.

Teenage diving sensation Tom Daley is 8/1 to win individual gold and 10/1 to win the synchronised event with his partner Blake Aldridge and 50/1 to win both.

World boxing champion boxer Frankie Gavin is 2/1 to follow up with Olympic gold.
