altJUNE 7 - THE official ticket launch for Birmingham's very own World Cup Final took place today. The 8th FIG Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup Final will be staged at the city's National Indoor Arena on Saturday November 25.

The event, which will see around 60 of the best trampolinists and tumblers in the world performing in Birmingham, will be jointly organised on behalf of the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) by British Gymnastics and Birmingham City Council, with the support of UK Sport's National Lottery-funded World Class Events Programme.

The World Cup Final will include six separate disciplines: women's ndividual trampoline, men's individual trampoline, women's synchronised trampoline, men's synchronised trampoline, women's tumbling and men's tumbling.

Competitors will be invited to the World Cup Final based on their world ranking and gymnasts have to compete at a number of qualifying events, which are staged across the world, in order to pick up ranking points. Only the top eight gymnasts or pairs in each of the disciplines will be invited to compete.

Around 20 countries will be represented at the event and these could include Japan, China, USA, Canada, Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France. Great Britain currently has several gymnasts ranked in the top ten of their discipline including Damien Walters (men's tumbling) and Samantha Palmer (women's tumbling), who both attended the launch, and in trampoline Claire Wright (women's individual and synchronised and trampoline) and Jaime Moore (women's synchronised trampoline) are the leading lights for the host nation.

In recent weeks the British Trampoline and Tumbling squad has achieved notable success, raising hopes that there will be a host nation medal to celebrate in Birmingham. At the European Championships in Metz the GB Juniors won the team title and three individual silver medals and both the senior men's and senior women's tumbling teams struck gold.

Palmer also won the women's individual tumbling title at the European Championships and recently won a gold medal in a World Cup qualifying event in Russia, where she beat home favourite and world champion Anna Korobeynikova. Wright and Moore emulated Palmer's achievement when they were crowned champions at the World Cup qualifying event in Ghent in the women's synchronised trampoline.

The senior GB team's total medal haul of six (three gold and three bronze) at the European Championships in Metz placed Britain second in the overall medal table, with only gymnastics super power Russia ahead of them.

Councillor Ray Hassall, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture said: "In 2004 Birmingham staged the World Cup Final in Artistic Gymnastics. This was an extremely successful event and we are looking forward to following this up with the Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup Final. Gymnastics is an Olympic sport so hosting this event, further strengthens our reputation as a world class sporting city and also allows us to showcase one of Europe's finest indoor sports facilities."

British Gymnastics has worked closely with Birmingham City Council to stage events in the city, most recently the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Final in 2004 and the UEG Congress in 2005, their Chief Executive Alan Sommerville said: "We are pleased to be working with Birmingham City Council again, as this partnership has proven to be extremely successful in the past. Trampoline and tumbling are both spectacular to watch and I'm sure spectators will be amazed by the skills and agility of the competitors and I know the British team members are looking forward to competing in a major event on home soil."

The event is supported by the National Lottery through UK Sport's World Class Events Programme with a grant of more than £200,000 and UK Sport's International Director, John Scott said: "The significant investment we are making in the Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup Final is testament to the high quality of event that Birmingham continues to deliver. Once again I have no doubt that spectators and competitors alike can look forward to a superbly organised event taking place in facilities that are second to none."

Tickets for the event have now gone on sale and start at £6 for adults and £4 for concessions (excluding booking and transaction fees) with each ticket holder also being entitled to a free British Gymnastics radio. This radio will allow spectators to receive full commentary and expert analysis about the event. For tickets or more information call 0870 366 6543 or log onto www.british-gymnastics.org.
