altSEPTEMBER 20 - SEBASTIAN COE today appealed to the Liberal Democrats to help keep the public inspired with the London 2012 Olympics.

The chairman of LOCOG was addressing the Lib-Dem annual conference in Brighton (pictured), where he told them it was important that there continued to be cross-party support to help ensure the success of the Games.

"It's about keeping the public on board," he said. "Cross-party support will help us to maintain public support. Each of the party members out there represent local communities and the real support lies at the grass-roots level.

"It's essential that we continue to provide them with information, keep them inspired, take them with us on the journey to 2012."

Coe also thanked the Lib-Dems for maintaining the spirit of unity in the run-up to London's bid.

Lib-Dem leader Sir Menzies Campbell, a former British record holder for the 100 metres who represented the country in the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, is a keen advocate of the London Olympics.
