altBritain's Beth Tweddle (pictured) today won two gold medals in the uneven bars and floor finals at the World University Games in Belgrade.

Qualifying for both events with the two top scores, Tweddle continued her firm form by wowing the judges in the finals.

The 24-year-old University of Liverpool student is part of a delegation of 196 athletes and officials from  Britain who travelled to Belgrade to compete across 11 sports at the World University Games.

Over 8,000 athletes from 140 countries will compete over 13 days in Serbia's capital city.

Tweddle is no stranger to competing on a world stage.

Making her international debut at the 2001 World Championships she is Britain’s most successful gymnast, having won the world title on the uneven bars in 2006 and two European titles in Milan in April.

Tweddle scored 15.750 on the uneven bars to take the title, ahead of Korea’s Yong Hwa Ha score of 15.575 and China’s Yuyuan Jiang score of 15.200.

Tweddle was pushed all the way in the floor competition by the Chinese pairing of Yuyuan Jiang and Ning He who took silver and bronze respectively.

After graduating from Liverpool John Moores with a sports science degree in 2007, Tweedle returned to study health studies at the University of Liverpool with ambitions of a career as a physiotherapist.

She said: “I have been lucky that both universities have been very supportive off all my training.

"They know that I want to succeed both academically and in my sport. I cannot wait to show them my medals."

Tweddle looked confident throughout both competitions with coach Colin Still, who was British team coach at three Olympic Games, offering advice and support.

Britain has taken a team of 10 gymnasts to Serbia, all looking for the multi-sport experience in the build up to 2012. Tweddle is no exception to this,

Tweddle said: “I am delighted to win two gold medals at the World University Games.

"The feeling of winning medals for your country is amazing and something I am very proud of.
