alt ALDERSHOT will be announced on Tuesday as the base for Britain's team to prepare for the 2012 Olympics, it was reported today.

The Sun claim in a report published today that the garrison town in Hampshire will be chosen ahead of Bath, Loughborough and Millfield.

Insidethegames reported that Aldershot was the favourite on December 14.

They claim it is the Army’s centre of sporting excellence and that it has an Olympic-sized pool, running track, indoor tennis courts and hockey pitches that has clinched the deal.

The town is undergoing a £12 billion redevelopment project to transform its grim image.

Simon Clegg, the chief executive of the British Olympic Association, is a former Army major once based in Aldershot, although there is no suggestion that this has influenced any decision.
