altBEN GORDON, a target for Britain's Olympic basketball team, has accepted the Chicago Bulls' one-year, $6.4 million (£3.6 million) tender offer just before the deadline, they have announced.

A restricted free agent, Gordon was looking for a long-term deal close to that agreed by team-mate Luol Deng, who signed a deal worth $80 million (£40.43 million).

Gordon led the Bulls in scoring last season with an average of 18.6 points and had earlier turned down an offer of $55 million (£31.1 million) from the Bulls.

Raymond Brothers, his agent, said: "He's very happy to be able to go back and play basketball.

"He looks forward to talking to the Bulls next summer about an extension."

Chicago's leading scorer the past three years, Gordon can not be traded this season but could leave for nothing next summer.

The impasse over the deal with the Bulls prevented him from playing for Britain in the recent qualifying matches for the European Championships alongisde Deng but coach Chris Finch will be hopeful of having him available for the tournament in Poland next year.

The 25-year-old Gordon moved to the United States shortly after he was born in London.
