OCTOBER 10 - SEBASTIAN COE (pictured) was today pressed by members of the London Assembly to guarantee that Londoners who work on the Olympic and Paralympic Games are paid a living wage.

Answering questions at City Hall, the chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games told London Assembly Members that wage rates would be "a consideration but not a condition” when contracts to work for LOCOG are awarded.

Assembly Chair Sally Hamwee said:  “The Games have been sold as an opportunity to regenerate a long deprived part of London and boost job opportunities across the capital and beyond.

" It would scarcely be in keeping with the Olympic spirit if people who do the hard work to build and deliver the Games were not paid a living wage”

The Assembly also voted unanimously to call on the Olympic Delivery Authority, who will build the facilities for the Games, to specify that contractors pay the London Living Wage, currently set at £7.05 per hour.
