altVISA and Nationwide have joined forces to co-host a new awards programme for athletes competing in the Visa Paralympic World Cup in Manchester next month.

The Nationwide Achievement Awards will be presented at a ceremony on the evening of May 12 and attended by the world’s top Paralympic sports stars, including Dame Tanni Grey Thompson, in the week of her final appearance as a competitor, and South Africa sprinter Oscar Pistorius.

Twelve Nationwide Achievement Awards will be presented to athletes competing at the Visa Paralympic World Cup.

“Visa and Nationwide share a common and passionate commitment to disability sport and we are both working to raise its profile and understanding among sports fans,” said Colin Grannell, executive vice president and head of partnership marketing, Visa Europe.

“We know that once people experience first hand events such as the Visa Paralympic World Cup, they become wonderful advocates for disability sport.”

In addition to presenting the Nationwide Achievement Awards, Nationwide has run a promotion for their Visa cardholders, linked to the awards, which will give two draw winners the chance to win a Visa hospitality package to the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
