altNOVEMBER 17 - SEBASTIAN COE (pictured) has today hit back at critics who have claimed that London 2012 is falling behind schedule already, calling some of their views "absurd".

"We live in a world of 'instant experts', many of whom have been commenting on various aspects of our preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games over the last couple of weeks with varying degrees of absurdity," the chairman of London 2012 writes in his monthly column in The Daily Telegraph published today.

"I and the rest of the London team listen to the real experts on delivering the Olympic and Paralympic Games – the International Olympic Committee, who have also been in the UK and believe we are exactly where we should be at this moment. In fact, they think we are doing extremely well and are significantly ahead in our planning.

"We have always known that the Games will be delivered under the intense scrutiny of the public and the media. That is the way it should be. It is a huge project with widespread public interest. However, it is important that we remain focused on what is real, the hard work and progress that is being made on our Games and legacy plans rather than misleading headlines.

"We have created a sustainability strategy that drives every aspect of our Games planning and implementation – which has never seen before. And, most of all, what we do after the Games have gone with our new venues and the renewed landscape in East London is enshrined in all our thinking now. As it has to be. These may not make the sexiest of headlines but nonetheless they are crucial milestones.

"We have many partners and 60 million people in the UK who will be watching our every move. We welcome that. But let's keep everything in perspective."
