altTHE Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has today announced that Andy Murray's mother, Judy (pictured), will become talent and performance manager for Scotland as well as taking on an advisory role with the governing body's new Tennis Leadership Team.

Murray will work closely with chief executive Roger Draper as well as Steven Martens, head of technical support, who has the vital role of leading British tennis’ efforts to identify and develop talented players.

Draper said: “We are really pleased Judy has made this commitment to British tennis and look forward to working with her on a wide range of issues over the coming years.

“Judy has been there and done it when it comes to identifying, nurturing and bringing through talented players.

“Both Andy and Jamie are clear evidence of that and I’m confident we now have some of the best people to help bring our talented players through.”

Murray said: “This is an exciting time for British tennis and I'm looking forward to helping the LTA to identify and develop the best young talent in the country.

“We need to do a much better job of attracting kids into tennis so there is a bigger pool of players to pick from and when we do find the really promising youngsters, we need to make sure that they have a stimulating and fun environment to develop in.

“I love working with the 8-12 age group and will be aiming to pass on a lot of my experience to the coaches, parents and players out in the field.”

A network of talent and performance managers is being put in place throughout the country.

They will be working closely with high performance centres to ensure that once the most talented players have been identified they are given the opportunity to train in the best facilities in their area as well as have regular access to the new National Tennis Centre at Roehampton.
