BRITAIN'S young swimmers in action on the FINA World Cup series rounded off the tour of Stockholm and Berlin with more medal winning performances today.

 

Emma Smithurst, a 17-year-old from Derventio, improved her own best time and English Record to place second in the 400 metres individual medley.

 

Gold went to Katheryn Meaklim of South Africa in 4min 29.41sec , Smithurst touched in 4:34.11 and bronze went to Yana Martynova of Russia in 4:34.82.

 

Xavier Mohammed, 18, took the silver in the 400m individual medley with a new personal best of 4:15.88 while Sophie Allen, 16, also swam a best time to take the silver in the 200m indivdual medley with 2:11.55.

American Robert Margalis took the bronze in the men's event in a time of 4:13.30 and Yannick Lebherz of Germany took the bronze in 4:16.54.

In the women's event it was Germany's Theresa Michalak who won gold in 2:10.92 while bronze went to South Africa's Amanda Loots in 2:11.68.

 

Loughborough University's Daniel Fogg, 21, won bronze in the 1500m freestyle with an impressive display in a time of 15:06.80.

 

Gold went to Denmark's Mads Glaesner in 14:38.97 and Germany's Jan Wolfgarten of Germany took the silver in 14:39.58.
