altJACQUES ROGGE, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has given London 2012 a massive boost by backing the controversial logo and also claiming preparations for the Games are more advance than any others in history.

"It took a little mental effort to read the numbers, which I think is a good thing," Rogge said in an interview published in The Daily Telegraph today.

"It appealed to me but I can understand why other people don't like it.

"Seb (Coe) came to me and he showed me the logo, and I had a look at it and I told him that I liked it and I approved it.

"My forecast is that with time and with the possibility of London to use it in different ways, people will get used to it and people will like it.

"I am sure it is not going to be a hot topic at the opening ceremony in 2012."

Just as important, with the IOC Co-Ordination Commission today due to conclude its visit to inspect London's facilities, will Rogge's comments on the Capital's preparations.

He said: "The reports I am getting (show) that in the initial period of two years, London is ahead of every host city we have had in the past.

"That includes Beijing... Beijing is now almost ready, which means they have done a tremendous job since the beginning, and now we are one year from the Games.

"I think I will be able to say that again in 2011 because London is progressing extremely well."
