altJUST three people have signed an online petition in support of the controversial 2012 Olympics logo - after thousands signed one calling for it to be scrapped and changed.

Nearly 17,000 people had put their names to a petition entitled "Change the London 2012 Logo" before midday today - a day after Sebastian Coe unveiled it.

But as that number continues to grow, in another petition on the same website entitled 'Keep the new London 2012 Olympics logo', the public response has not been so overwhelming.

Set up by Nick Jones yesterday, only three people - Philip Livingstone, Robert Throllop and Dr Ian Robinson -had added their names under the message 'We, the undersigned, endorse the London 2012 Olympic logo,'.

The description of the petition supporting the logo reads: "It's bold, it's fresh, it's different. It exudes a dynanism in a non-conformist, angular expression, using eye-catching colours and the Olympic flame is clearly visible with the '0' representing the flame.

"There are calls to change it, but why?

"Who's to say that the replacement would be any better?

"A replacement will cost money and that cannot be prudent.

"I urge you to sign this petition and support the London 2012 logo!"

But on the petition's forum, the logo's supporters were mocked.

One post read: "Only three sigs !".

The logo has been met with huge public scorn, with thousands ridiculing the £400,000 paid to brand consultancy firm Wolf Olins to produce it.

Many internet users have submitted their own designs they think would be more fitting.
