altTHE International Olympic Committee (IOC) has awarded the broadcast rights for the Olympic Games in 2010 and 2012 to South African public-service broadcaster SABC, they announced today.

Under the deal, the SABC will offer increased coverage of the 2010 Winter Games and the 2012 Summer Games across a number of TV channels, including a commitment to air over 200 hours of live or same-day delayed coverage of the London 2012 Games.

The deal also includes the rights across all platforms including satellite, cable, internet and mobile as well as satellite rights for sub-Saharan Africa.

IOC President Jacques Rogge said: “We are delighted to announce this agreement with SABC.

"Our partnership will ensure that as many people as possible are able to enjoy the exciting sports action of the Olympic Games in South Africa”.

IOC Executive Board member Richard Carrión, who led the negotiations, said: “SABC has demonstrated a passion for the Olympic Games and a clear commitment to the values of the Olympic Movement.

"We look forward to continuing our work with SABC and ensuring increased coverage of the Games is brought to sports fans across South Africa.”
