August 21 - Britain's basketball team tonight recorded its first win of the summer campaign came against Slovenia, whom they are set to meet in the group stages of the European Championships next month.

With big men Joel Freeland and Rob Archibald both rested, Chris Finch's side still rallied to a 63-56 victory at the four-nation tournament in Seville.

Kieron Achara (pictured) had 13 points and six rebounds, Nate Reinking also took 13 while Andy Betts contributed 11 points and 6 rebounds as Britain ended a run of five successive defeats.

Achara said: "I think we played a lot more focused tonight.

"We were able to stay in the game mentally as well as physically and in the end we scrapped out the win.

"It was very important we got that win tonight, it allows us to regain some confidence in ourselves individually and as a team and it shows us that we can compete at this level.

"I think at this stage in the preparation it is nice to get a win especially against someone who will be in our group.

"Though we know that this win won't mean anything in September, team strategies and personnel will all change by then so we know that this game is not the one that counts and we have to stay focused for whatever they throw at us during EuroBasket.

"I believe we still have so much to work on as a team though there are signs of what we can do and how good we can be.

"Obviously the longer we stay together as a team the more efficient and consistent we will become.

"We just have to stay focused, positive and continue to play with that great British pride"

Britain's final warm-up games before the European Championships in Poland are next week in the Efes Pilsen World Cup tournament in Ankara, Turkey.

They play Latvia on August 26 and Macedonia two days later.
