altLISA WAINWRIGHT (pictured) officially took over as the new chief executive of Volleyball England today as the sport continues to gear itself up for London 2012.

Wainwright was appointed to the post in December and has spent the past month familarising herself with her new role.

She previously worked at Sport England for three years as head of national sport.

Wainwright said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my first month with volleyball and am excited by the prospects ahead for the sport.

"I am looking forward to hearing from more members over the coming months and am getting set to drive the sport forward with their input, enthusiasm and passion for the sport."

Wainwright has so far attended Loughborough Lions to learn how to score, visited the British women’s squad at their base at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, attended a coaching session at Ruislip School, visited London, South West and Midlands regional officers and even been invited to join training at Birmingham Volleyball Club.

Former chief executive, Toomas Ojasoo is currently completing a comprehensive induction handover for Wainwright and will work on projects alongside Lisa until his retirement later this year.

With almost 20 years of experience working in sport development, Volleyball England president Richard Callicott, welcomed her appointment.

He said: "We are delighted at Lisa's appointment.

"She has a wealth of experience in sports development and its administration along with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities for volleyball in the future."
