altJOHN ARMITT, the chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), has hit back at claims by Barry Hearn that the main stadium for 2012 could become a white elephant unless Leyton Orient are able to move into it.

Hearn claimed last month that the League One club were still were a long way from concluding a deal to become the anchor tennants after the Games when the stadium is due to be downsized to a capacity of 25,000.

insidethegames reported that Hearn had said that he did not want a running track between the pitch and the stands.

He said: "Well, they don't want to end up with an empty ground that is only used for athletics three times a year with grass growing through the seats?

"That's not a great legacy for Seb Coe, is it?"

Hearn also said that Orient would not pay anything towards the Stadium being re-configured after the Games.

But Armitt has now hit back at Hearn's claims.

He said: "I think that's absolute nonsense.

"We are four years away from the Games, then you have to dismantle the stadium and get it ready for use.

"So the first season of anybody doing anything in there I suspect is 2014.

"So we've got six years.

"We don't want to rush in and make an announcement."
