altENGLAND will host the 2010 women's Champions Trophy, the International Hockey Federation announced today.

 

The annual tournament for the world's top six nations will be held at Highfields Hockey Centre in Nottingham, home of Slazenger Premier League club Beeston, over nine days in July that year.

 

England Hockey executive chairman Philip Kimberley said: "I am delighted England Hockey has been awarded the Women's Champions Trophy by our world governing body, which is in recognition of our successful hosting of the EuroHockey Nations Championships in 2007."

 

UK Sport's Simon Morton said: "UK Sport is very pleased to support an event which will provide an ideal opportunity for competition against the top hockey nations in the world as preparation for London 2012."

 

England Hockey is partnering with a number of stakeholders to deliver the event including UK Sport, the East Midlands Development Agency, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.

 

Samsung will be the title sponsor of the event which will officially be known as:- ‘Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy Women Nottingham, England, 2010’

 

Abby Johnson Brennan, deputy chief executive of the East Midlands Development Agency, said: I am very pleased that the FIH and England Hockey have selected Nottingham as the host City for the Women's Champions Trophy in 2010. 

 

"This complements the region’s existing events portfolio and in particular our aspirations to encourage more young girls and women to take up sport and physical activity.”
