altBRITISH Olympic hopeful Naomi Folkard (pictured) has won the silver medal at the European Archery Championships in Vittel, France, today.

The 24-year-old from Leamington was beaten by home favourite Berengere Schuh in the women's recurve final, losing by 104 points to 99.

It was Folkard's second successive European Championships silver - she was also runner-up in Jaen, Spain, two years ago.

Folkard, who was Britain's only medal winner at this championship, will now focus on gaining a spot at the Beijing Olympics.

She is one of six archers who will shoot off for three British places next month.

Team manager Hilda Gibson said: "Naomi's had a great week, and it was a shame she couldn't end it with a gold medal.

"On this form, she will certainly be a contender in Beijing, if she qualifies, as will Schuh - both girls fully justified their place in the final."
