January 15 - Sir Craig Reedie (pictured), Britain's top-ranking international sports official, has been appointed as a special advisor by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD), the country's new independent drugs panel.

Sir Craig, a member of the International Olympic Committee's ruling Executive Board and chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) Finance and Administration Committee, will offer advice and guidance to the new agency.

The 68-year-old Scot was on the National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO) Project Board and played a key role in the development of the organisation.

Sir Craig said: "The establishment of a truly independent National Anti-Doping Organisation within the UK will serve British sport well as it removes any perceived conflict of interest within previous arrangements.

"The commitment of Government to increased funding and to the proper governance of UK Anti-Doping will help the new agency to create its full role and range of responsibilities.

"I look forward to helping progress this important part of the overall sport infrastructure."

Sir Craig, the former chairman of the British Olympic Association (BOA), also played a vital part in London's successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

Andy Parkinson, the chief executive of UKAD, said: "I am delighted that Sir Craig has agreed to act as an advisor to UK Anti-Doping.

"To be able to call upon his experience and expertise, not just from the work he does with WADA but from his standing across sport in general, is extremely valuable to our organisation.

"I very much look forward to working with him as we further establish our work in the UK and internationally."
