April 28 - Jamaican sprinting star Asafa Powell (pictured) has lent his support to the Singapore 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games by participating in an on-line viral video titled ‘Asafa Catch Me If You Can.’

In order to build awareness for the 2010 Games, Singapore officials recently launched the viral video which features Powell being challenged to a run by an intrepid teenager.

Singapore organisers revealed that the viral video has been successful in creating interest and greater international awareness of the Youth Olympics largely due to the high profile of the Jamaican.

Powell, who held the 100 metres world record between June 2005 and May 2008 with times of 9.77 and 9.74sec respectively, is a big rival of Usain Bolt, who succeeded him as world record holder.

Powell has never won an individual Olympic title however, he was in the same 4x100m relay team as Bolt when the Jamaican team picked up gold and smashed the world record at the Beijing 2008 Games.

Powell, who also picked up his first World Championship gold with Bolt in the 4x100m relay in Berlin last year, claimed that he is delighted to give his backing to the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games which open on August 14 and feature all 26 summer Olympic sports.

Powell said: "The Youth Olympic Games is a fantastic platform for young athletes around the world to compete and see where they stand at an international level.

"I am sure that there will be many talents that will be discovered in Singapore and will eventually become future Olympians and great athletes."
