November 30 - Some of the country's leading sports stars, led by Sir Steve Redgrave (pictured), have joined a campaign for Britain's basketball team to be given a wildcard entry into next year's World Championships in Turkey.

By Duncan Mackay   November 20 - Squash must keep up its campaign to gain inclusion on the Olympic programme, a senior member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has told delegations attending the World Squash Federation's (WSF) annual meeting.

  Later in the annual meeting, delegates elected Serbia to full membership of the WSF.


Ennis and Idowu voted British Athletes of the Year

November 14 - Jessica Ennis (pictured) and Phillips Idowu were named Athletes of the Year at the British Athletics Writers' Association's (BAWA) 47th Annual Awards Dinner in London tonight.

Just about the only downside of staging the Olympics is the number-crunchers and sporting know-nothings - particularly the former - who start butting in where they are neither wanted or needed. And my very particular gripe this week is their notion that there simply has to be a return – ie medals –  for any monies spent by UK Sport and other agencies.
