Glasgow 2014 have signed up their first domestic official merchandise licensee in West Lothian firm Highlander, who will be the official license holder for luggage and wallets for the Commonwealth Games.August 26 - Glasgow 2014 has signed up its first domestic merchandise licensee in West Lothian firm Highlander, which will be the official supplier of luggage and wallets for next year's Commonwealth Games.

Livingston-based Highlander, which designed and produced backpacks, wallets and travel accessories for mainstream United Kingdom retail for London 2012, will now see its products as part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games merchandise range that will continue to expand in the coming months.

"We are pleased to see the first of what we anticipate will be a number of Scottish companies come forward as an official merchandise licensee," Glasgow 2014 deputy chief executive Ty Speer said.

"The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is an opportunity for businesses based in Scotland to benefit from and become part of the largest sporting and cultural event ever held here."

Highlander sales director Ramin Golzari explained that after working with the London 2012 Games Glasgow 2014 was "the next natural step".

"Following the experience of London 2012 we're excited to be part of another large multisport event taking place on our doorstep," he said.

Opportunities for Scottish businesses to be involved were outlined at a recent Licensee Workshop and several more companies are expected to be appointed as a result in the coming months.

Interest in Commonwealth Games licensed products has been high across the country and with some licence categories still available, interested parties are encouraged to contact Glasgow 2014.
