Zwolińska and De Gennaro European Kayak Champions. BOBO

Klaudia Zwolińska (POL) and Giovanni De Gennaro (ITA) claimed the individual European Championships titles, while host nation Slovenia took gold in the women's team event and the Czech Republic gold in the men's team event.

The competition was altered due to rising water levels in the Sava River, which led to a change in the race format, with athletes only competing in heats and a final. Polish kayaker Klaudia Zwolińska produced the best final run of the women's event at the 2024 I Feel Slovenia European Canoe Slalom Championships in Ljubljana - Tacen. Her time was almost five seconds faster than young Slovakian Zuzana Pankova, who finished second, while Great Britain's Mallory Franklin took the bronze medal.

After winning her first gold medal in the senior category, Zwolińska said: "I am very happy, I am a bit surprised that I had such a good run. I always made small mistakes, that's why I got the silver medal last year, but I knew I could fight for the gold. I'm happy to have this gold. I like the colour gold, now I have it and I'm very happy.

In the men's event, Italy's Giovanni De Gennaro also won his first senior European gold medal. The 31-year-old Italian had previously won silver at the European Championships in 2021 and 2022. He finished 2.96 seconds ahead of Austria's Mario Leitner and 3.87 seconds ahead of Switzerland's Gelindo Chiarello.

After winning his first European gold medal, the Italian said: "It feels great. I've waited so long to win a championship. Here, with my family and friends, it's something special. I'm so happy that I had a solid run and finished on top.

In the women's team competition, Slovenia celebrated a gold medal on home soil and secured a clear lead. Eva Tercelj, Eva Alina Hocevar and Ajda Novak finished 7.27 seconds ahead of France with Camille Prigent, Emma Vuitton and Coline Charel. Third place went to the Czech Republic with Antonie Galuskova, Katerina Bekova and Tereza Fiserova.

The Czech Republic won the gold medal in the men's kayak team event. Jiri Prskavec, Vit Prindis and Jakub Krejci finished more than four seconds ahead of Austria's Felix Oschmautz, Mario Leitner and Moritz Kremslehner, while French kayakers Titouan Castryck, Anatole Delassus and Vincent Delahaye took bronze.
