The Chinese women’s recurve team beat the top-seeded Koreans for the second time in a row, taking the gold at the Hyundai Archery World Cup 2024 in Yecheon, Republic of Korea. China and Korea had played out an exciting gold medal match in the season opener in Shanghai last month with the former pulling ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games champions.

At the second stage in Yecheon, Olympian An Qixuan and former Youth Olympic Champion Li Jiaman pulled through, with both shooting decisive tiebreakers and Qixuan eventually delivering the winning arrow.

Qixuan, Jiaman and Xu Zhiyun tied Jeon Hunyoung, Lim Sihyeon and Nam Suhyeon 4-4 in regulation set points and then 29-29 in the shoot-off, but Jiaman‘s opener had clearly landed closer to the middle.

"We have always competed in Korea, and we brought a fighting attitude because we were more determined to do it here than at home," said Qixuan to World Archery.

"We did our best,” Korean captain Jeon Hunyoung said. “I‘m proud of my teammates… we’re going to really try hard and go for better results at the next stage [in Antalya] and the Olympics."

China doesn’t officially have a team quota for the Games yet, but their slots are guaranteed given their second place rank at the Sanlida World Archery Rankings.

Korea men‘s recurve team took the gold on home soil, while Mexico topped the mixed team podium.
