Historic Olympic Achievement for PATU. PATU

The Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) has achieved an unprecedented milestone for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.In contrast to the two athletes who qualified by ranking for Tokyo 2020, on this occasion, five taekwondo athletes from the region have secured their spots in the world's most important sporting event through the world ranking.

The athletes who will represent the region in Paris 2024 are Carlos Sansores (men’s +80kg) from Mexico, CJ Nickolas (men’s -80kg) from the United States, Caroline Santos (women’s -67kg) from Brazil, Skylar Park (women’s -57kg) from Canada and Daniela Souza (women’s -49kg) from Mexico.

PATU president, Juan Manuel Lopez. Lopez has highlighted the importance of the support of the national federations and the multidisciplinary teams of the qualifying countries, who have worked tirelessly to achieve this historic accomplishment.

In a recent statement, Lopez expressed his gratitude and pride, "This is a historic moment for the Pan American Taekwondo Union and for all the countries that are part of our community. Thanks to the joint efforts of the national federations, coaches, and multidisciplinary teams, we have managed to qualify five athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This achievement is a testament to the commitment and dedication of everyone involved. Now, our goal is to turn this qualification into great results in Paris."

The five qualified athletes have demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the Olympic cycle, participating in many international competitions and getting important victories that have positioned them among the elite of world taekwondo.

Sansores has been a dominant figure in the +80 kg division, standing out in several international tournaments and consolidating himself as one of the best in the world.

Nickolas has shown impressive progress in the -80kg division, reaching podiums in renowned championships, including second place at the 2023 world championships.

Santos of Brazil has been a consistent competitor in the -67kg division, racking up medals and raising her position in the world rankings.

Park has shined in the -57kg category, with outstanding performances that have taken her to the top of the rankings.

Souza in the -49kg category, has been an unstoppable force, winning multiple titles and reaffirming her place among the best.

These five world ranked qualified athletes are also joined by athletes who have secured their spots through the qualifying event held recently in the Dominican Republic. This combination of talents, both those who have excelled in the ranking and those who succeeded in the qualifiers, increases the expectations of great results for the Pan American Taekwondo Union in Paris 2024. With a reinforced contingent and meticulous preparation, the region is ready to demonstrate its strength and ability on the Olympic stage, aspiring to achieve historic performances and bring home medals.
