The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has teamed up with the French Development Agency (AFD) to amplify the impact of sports as a key driver of achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to promote global development and well-being.

This year, a pioneering initiative will kick off, harnessing the potential of sport to combat youth crime in Asia and enhance skills development and livelihoods in Africa. The IOC and AFD will jointly invest €1 million each, funding sports and youth crime prevention projects in four Asian countries.

The initiative will support community-based sports initiatives, targeting thousands of vulnerable youth, while also offering training and capacity-building opportunities for sports and criminal justice organisations to enhance their ability to deliver effective sports and youth crime prevention programs.

Such enterprise will strengthen the partnership between the IOC and UN Office on Drugs and Crime, leveraging sport to prevent violence and promote peaceful communities. Meanwhile, the IOC and Laureus Sport for Good will expand their existing "Sport, Education and Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa" program, investing an additional €1 million to support youth education and employability through sport in 13 African countries.

This expansion will enable more community projects to reach 12,000 young people, while also increasing technical assistance and capacity building for 45 organisations. The partnership will foster new opportunities for co-investment and joint programs, aligning with the Olympism365 strategy and supporting the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026.

The IOC's partnership with AFD aligns with the Olympism365 strategy, which seeks to amplify the Olympic Movement's impact on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Recommendation 10 of Olympic Agenda 2020+5. By collaborating with AFD, the IOC aims to foster collective action and innovation among organisations from within and outside the Olympic Movement, realising the potential of sport as a force for good.

Building on their existing partnership, the IOC and AFD will also work together to extend the social legacy of Paris 2024 beyond France, leveraging the international platform to drive positive change.
