IBA launches Champion Night programme for elite boxing referees. IBA

The International Boxing Association (IBA) has launched a Professional Certification Programme. This initiative provides comprehensive training and certification for officials. It provides the knowledge and skills required to officiate at the highest technical level at IBA professional boxing events.

The IBA will offer a series of workshops and certification training for our senior cohort of officials, including IBA 3-Star Referees and Judges (R&Js) and their respective Technical Delegates, as part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Programme. Once accredited, the officials will have the opportunity to take part in Champion's Nights, where boxers from around the world take part in this professional transition.

The training programme has been developed by the newly appointedIBA Professional Boxing Committee. Registration will open soon. The programme includes both theory and practical examples. Scoring criteria, movement and management in the ring and the transition from amateur to professional officiating will be key topics covered. This last phase is crucial as it is the key to developing young talent.

The IBA emphasises: "Officials should be trained in ethics and know how to manage behaviour in all cases. The ultimate goal is to ensure that officials are well prepared for their role within the organisation and at each event."

The project will focus on teaching the rules and regulations of professional boxing. It will also provide the officials with a clear understanding of their specific responsibilities and duties within their chosen role, both on a personal and professional level.

The training is open to officials who wish to increase their level of specialisation. In order to gain the knowledge and requirements necessary to officiate at events, completion of the courses is essential. Prerequisites include holding the title of 3-Star Referee and Judge (R&J) or being an International Technical Official to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Further information will be provided.

The IBA has already announced that its aim is to professionalise the structure and ensure that the level of each official involved in events is as high as possible. This will benefit the work of the organisation. This Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme ensures that each link in the chain fulfils its role.

Managers, athlete support staff, internal event organisers, technicians, referees... The training of each of these roles makes it possible to improve the final result. The courses and programmes are aimed at this specialisation.
