The ITF has announced the final list of tennis players who will compete at the Olympic Games. The five events will take place during Wimbledon this Friday. There will be representatives from 41 countries, the tournament will last nine days and will be played on twelve courts. Alexander Zverev will be defending his title, but Bencic will not as she is on maternity leave.

The names of the tennis players who will be competing for medals at Paris 2024 are now official. There will be 184 players in total. There are only a few notable absences, as everyone wants to take part. World number one Jannik Sinner (Italy) and Iga Swiatek (Poland) are on the list, as is Novak Djokovic (Serbia).

The Serb will be looking to break the curse that has prevented him from winning Olympic gold, one of the few titles missing from his extensive record. In Beijing 2008, the Serb could only manage third place. Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) will also be there, and after his victory at Roland Garros, he is now fighting to win Wimbledon, which would be a crowning achievement. The Spaniard will be competing in both singles and doubles with Rafa Nadal, a major attraction for Paris.

Zverev of Germany, who lost to Alcaraz at Roland Garros but won gold in Tokyo, will be defending his title. Doubles champions Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic of Croatia and Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic will also be in action. Reigning Olympic champion Belinda Bencic will be absent as she is on maternity leave.

The names of the 184 players who will face the pressure of the Olympic tournament, which begins on Saturday 27 July and ends on Sunday 4 August, have been announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), which organises the event on behalf of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Once again, the courts of Paris will be the centre of the tennis world's attention, as they are during the Roland Garros tournament. This year, twelve courts will host the matches, with special attention being paid to the two main courts, Philippe Chatrier and Suzanne Lenglen, both of which have roofs in case of rain, although the forecasts suggest that the heat will be the dominant factor.

There are some remarkable facts about this event, such as the representation of 41 countries, with Lebanon making its debut. Two of the most important tennis players of recent decades, Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray, have made the list. Rafa Nadal is one of the few players to have won both disciplines

He won the singles at Beijing 2008 and the doubles at Rio 2016 with Spaniard Marc Lopez. It's a difficult feat to match. Equally impressive is to be a two-time singles champion. Andy Murray is the only man in history to have done so. Murray is racing against time to recover from a back injury. He underwent surgery and missed Wimbledon, but is now on the list to play in what could be his final tournament before his announced retirement.

All players must be up to date with their national governing body and meet Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup eligibility requirements, according to the ITF classification system. The ATP and WTA rankings as at 10 June have been used for entry.

Entries for the 16-team mixed doubles competition will be decided on the spot from players who have already competed in singles or doubles, with a maximum of one team per country. Registration closes on Wednesday 24 July. The ITF will announce the list of entrants shortly afterwards.

The winners of the Pan American, Asian and African Games and the Olympic gold medallists/Grand Slam singles champions with the most titles will be allocated ITF places. More details on the ITF places can be found here. The draw for the Olympic Tennis event will take place at Roland Garros on Thursday 25 July.

ITF President David Haggerty said, "Today is an exciting day as we confirm the star-studded full list for the Paris 2024 Olympic Tennis Event. After a successful but COVID-affected Tokyo 2020, the prospect of returning to Olympic tennis played in front of thousands of fans is very exciting for all of us. And judging by the entry list, we're guaranteed to see a lot of exciting tennis," said the Spanish newspaper AS.

Paris 2024 will host five separate Olympic tennis events from 27 July: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles. From Friday 2 August to Sunday 4 August, the finals and bronze medal matches will take place.
