Two weeks before the start of the Paris 2024 activities (rugby and football kick off on the afternoon of 24 July) and 17 days before the start of the canoeing events, the ICF has announced the nations that have secured quotas for the Games, which will see the debut of kayak cross.

A total of 84 paddlers from 32 National Olympic Committees across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas and Oceania will compete for canoe slalom glory at the thirty-third modern Olympic Games.

This includes an additional quota awarded to Amir Rezanejad Hassanjani in May after the International Olympic Committee named him as part of the Refugee Olympic Team for Paris 2024. Another quota was also granted to Comoros by the Olympic Tripartite Commission.

France is the nation with the most quotas. The hosts have been awarded six quotas and will compete in women's canoe, men's canoe, women's kayak, men's kayak, women's kayak cross and men's kayak cross.

The Czech Republic, Spain and Germany have won five places each, while Australia, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Slovenia and Slovakia have secured four places each.

The teams from Austria, China, the Netherlands and Poland will send three paddlers to the Games.

Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, Chinese Taipei and the United States have won two quotas each, while Algeria, Andorra, Croatia, Morocco, Mexico, Senegal, Sweden, Tunisia and Ukraine will each have one representative.

Importantly, gender parity has been secured for another Olympic sport, with canoeing featuring three women's and three men's events.

The competition will take place from 27 July to 5 August at the Vaires-sur-Marne nautical stadium, with activities always starting in the Parisian afternoon, between 15:00 and 15:30 (local time), depending on the day.

Jean-Michel Prono, Chairman of the ICF Canoe Slalom Committee, said: "Time has flown since we won our first quotas last year and now we are only 17 days away from the start of the competition.

"Many of the paddlers who will be competing at the Games are already in Paris training on the Olympic course. There is a lot of excitement for these Games, especially with the debut of Kayak Cross on the Olympic stage," concluded the Frenchman.
