The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee has named the 592-member Team USA 2024 for the upcoming Olympic Games, with the Opening Ceremony scheduled for Friday 26 July in Paris. To date, 138 Para athletes have qualified for the Paralympics, which begin on 28 August.

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee has announced the Olympic Team that will represent the world's leading sporting and economic power at the year's premier sporting event.

With a total of 592 members, the USA is fully prepared for the competitions, which begin on Wednesday 24 July and conclude on Sunday 11 August.

"It is with immense pride and excitement that we announce the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team and the exceptional athletes who embody the spirit of dedication, resilience and excellence, continuing the proud history of Team USA at the Olympic Games," said USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland.

The 2024 US Olympic Team includes more than 250 Olympians who will be competing in the world's premier multi-sport event for the second time. There are three five-time Olympians, four four-time Olympians, 16 three-time Olympians and more than 50 two-time Olympians.

The veteran group includes 122 Olympic medallists, including 66 Olympic champions who have won a total of 110 gold medals. Forty-five athletes have won multiple Olympic medals, while 23 have won multiple Olympic gold medals.

"As they prepare to represent our nation on the biggest stage in all of sport, we honour their personal achievements and celebrate the unwavering support of those who make it possible: their families, teammates, national governing bodies, coaches and communities across the country. In the true spirit of 'One for All', we join a proud nation of fans in cheering them on through inspiring performances and unforgettable moments," said Hirshland.

The multiple medallists are led by Katie Ledecky (swimming), who tops the list with 10 Olympic medals, including seven gold and three silver. Simone Biles (gymnastics) and Caeleb Dressel (swimming) arrive in Paris 2024 with seven medals each, while Ryan Murphy (swimming) has six and Diana Taurasi (basketball), Lilly King (swimming) and Simone Manuel (swimming) have five each.

The three five-time Olympians on the list are Taurasi, Steffen Peters (equestrian) and McLain Ward (equestrian). Four-time Olympians include Brady Ellison (archery), Gerek Meinhardt (fencing), Stu McNay (sailing) and Vincent Hancock (shooting).

"These remarkable 592 Team USA athletes have shown unparalleled dedication and passion in their pursuit of excellence on their journey to earn a spot on the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team and represent the United States in Paris," said Rocky Harris, USOPC Chief of Sports and Athlete Services and Chef de Mission for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Of the nearly 600 athletes competing in Paris, representing the most medal-winning country in history, 75 percent (444 athletes) come from the collegiate ranks, having competed at the collegiate level at 169 schools.

In addition, 21 teams have at least 80% collegiate participation on their U.S. Olympic rosters, including 15 teams composed entirely of collegiate athletes: women's basketball, men's and women's 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball, men's and women's indoor volleyball, diving, fencing, women's field hockey, women's rugby, modern pentathlon, men's and women's water polo, rowing and triathlon.

Although the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be the first in history to achieve gender parity among participating athletes, the U.S. Olympic representation is dominated by women, with 314 athletes to 278 men. This is the fourth time in a row that the leading sporting power has sent more women than men to the Games.

The United States will have a significant, albeit smaller, presence at the Paralympics, which will be held in the French capital from Wednesday 28 August to Sunday 8 September. So far, 138 athletes have qualified for the 2024 US Paralympic team, which will be announced on 19 August.
