Los Angeles 2028 (LA28), the organisers of the Olympic Games to succeed Paris 2024, have unveiled additional venues for 19 sports, including open water events in Long Beach and the triathlon at Alamitos Beach.

The organisers of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games have announced more than a dozen venue assignments for Olympic sports, utilising exceptional sports venues and sites in the city of Los Angeles and the neighbouring cities of Carson and Long Beach, all in the state of California, USA.

The LA28 Games will be the third time Los Angeles has hosted the Olympic Games, following the 1932 and 1984 Games. It will be the first time it has hosted the Paralympic Games. Long Beach, in the southern part of Los Angeles County, will host open water swimming and the triathlon at Alamitos Beach, and sailing at Belmont Shore.

Rowing, as at the 1932 Games, and canoe sprint events will be held at the city's "marine stadium" on Lake Perris, about a hundred kilometres east of the epicentre of the 34th Olympic Games. Water polo will join artistic swimming in the temporary pool to be set up at the Long Beach Convention Centre.

Northwest of Los Angeles, golf will be played at the Riviera Country Club, located in the upscale Pacific Palisades district between Santa Monica and the Topanga Park hills. The course hosts an annual PGA Tour event, hosted by Tiger Woods, and has been the site of Grand Slam golf events such as the US Open and the PGA Championship.

In Carson (south of Los Angeles), the world-class sports complex that is home to the LA Galaxy Major League Soccer team hosts track cycling at the Velodrome, hockey at the fields adjacent to the stadium, rugby sevens at the stadium and tennis at the tennis centre. The Tennis Centre is home to the U.S. Tennis Association's (USTA) High Performance Training Centre and has hosted several women's professional tennis championships and tournaments.

The Los Angeles Convention Center, which served as the main press centre for the 1984 Games, will host five Olympic sports in 2028, offering fans an extraordinary opportunity to watch multiple sports in the same building.

Located next to the NBA's Crypto.com Arena, the Convention Center will host the Olympic sports of fencing, judo, table tennis, taekwondo and wrestling. Across the street, the downtown Los Angeles Theatre will host the weightlifting competition.

The initial announcement said that SoFi Stadium, the $5 billion-plus home of the NFL's Rams and Chargers, will host swimming, while track and field will be held at Memorial Coliseum, which will have the honour of hosting the world's best athletes for the third time in its history, as it did at the 1932 and 1984 Games.

"The 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games will reflect all that the Los Angeles region has to offer, and with these venue assignments, we are very proud to bring the Games to many of our vibrant and diverse communities," said Janet Evans, LA28's Chief Athlete Officer.

"The City of Los Angeles will host more Olympic sports than anywhere else, and Carson and Long Beach, which have hosted events in previous Games, will host more events than ever before. The venues in these cities are world-class and will provide ideal conditions for athletes and fans, and we look forward to welcoming them in 2028," concluded Evans, who won five Olympic medals as an athlete.

The allocations, which were approved by the IOC Executive Board and reviewed with each International Federation, were finalised after the Games agreements with Carson and Long Beach.

In the coming months, LA28 will announce new venues in Los Angeles and other locations, including sports that have been added since the 2017 bid plan.
