Great Britain will finish third in the Paris 2024 Olympics winning more Gold medals than Tokyo 2020 according to a new supercomputer prediction.

With the much-anticipated opening ceremony kicking off the summer Olympic Games on Friday, a new supercomputer has analysed over a century of Olympic history and predicted how the final medal table will look after 11 August.

The SuperComputer, which has been conducted by OLBG, projected 26 Golds and 62 medals overall for Great Britain beating their 22 Golds in Tokyo and propelling them to a 3rd place finish behind the United States and China.

It forecasts the 592-member Team USA to again top the medal table replicating the 39 golds won at the last games while winning 121 medals overall followed by China with 32 Golds and 77 medals total.

Host country France, meanwhile, is predicted to greatly improve on its 10th-place finish at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with 16 gold medals and 51 overall seeing them to a 6th-place spot just one point behind Australia in 5th but ahead of both Australia and Japan.

According to OLBG, the SuperComputer analysed historical data from every Summer Olympics since 1896 combined with predicted performances of each of the top 30 nations.

“The dataset includes every medal won and a variety of factors such as the country, sport, event, and gender of the event” reads the OLBG study. “The model was trained to recognise patterns in how countries perform across different sports and events.”
