Words of encouragement from the Team USA Basketball star  on Thursday as he expressed his support for the Democratic party candidate who is running for president in the upcoming US elections.

Stephen Curry, who is currently in the final stages of training before the Paris showdown, has stressed his confidence that the team's success could strengthen the unity of his country, which is currently undergoing significant political turmoil.

The Golden State player did not hesitate to endorse the vice-president, who, in addition to also being born in Oakland and a fervent Warriors fan, is preparing to take on Donald Trump in the next presidential election following Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race.

In his speech, Curry described the US political scene as a "pivotal moment for the country" in which "Vice President Harris is trying to bring her energy to this campaign, and hopefully her name will be on the ballot." In the same vein, the NBA champion has highlighted Harris' excellent relationship with the San Francisco Bay Area, where his team plays. "I want to give that energy back with my play in these Olympics," he added.

The all-time guard firmly believes that a successful Olympic campaign can be a positive factor in national cohesion. "Hopefully, this can be a great opportunity on our part to bring the country together," said Curry. "Sport has the power to bring a lot of people together. We are focused on positive strength and optimism, especially at a time when America is so divided."

Curry's support for Harris reflects not only his personal commitment, but also his hope that sport can play a role in bridging political divides. The country is in political turmoil. Just under a fortnight ago, former President Trump was attacked while speaking at a rally in the run-up to the US elections in November.

For his part, Biden has confirmed that he will pass the baton to current vice-president Harris. He revealed the news in his latest address to the nation. "I revere this office, but I love my country more. It has been the honour of my life to serve as your president. But in the defence of democracy, which is at stake, I believe it is more important than any title," the president said.

While political uncertainty reigns in the United States, Curry and his teammates will want to secure a gold medal and give people something to celebrate amidst the exhausting political noise. "I don't care who the opponent is, I just want to be in the final," Curry said with a smile just before returning to the team hotel. The USA will face Serbia in their first match on Sunday.
