Team GB is reportedly boycotting the Olympic Village's food and has flown out their chef to the Games amid complaints of food shortages and uncooked meat. While Olympic organisers had boasted of Michelin-starred meals, the delegation has complained that the food has been of insufficient quality.

The Olympic Village features a 3,300-seat restaurant with a dining hall that has six different food areas offering dishes from around the world, including plant-based dishes. However, the athletes were subjected to lengthy queues and 'raw' chicken and consequently headed to Team GB’s base in Clichy in search of better food, picking up packed meals for dinner while having their lunches.

"There are not enough of certain foods: eggs, chicken, certain carbohydrates, and then there is the quality of the food, with raw meat being served to athletes. They have got to improve it over the next couple of days dramatically.

"Our athletes have decided they would rather go and eat in our performance lodge in Clichy, so we are having to get another chef to come over as the demand is far exceeding what we thought it would be.

"The athletes are not going there just to eat their lunch, they are packing meals for their dinner as they don’t want to go into the athlete restaurant to eat,”  Andy Anson, the British Olympic Association’s chief executive, told the Times.

Olympians have claimed that the amount of food available in the canteen is insufficient, with eggs and grilled meats reportedly rationed on Wednesday during the breakfast service, the French newspaper L'Equipe reported.

The Olympic Village's catering partner, Sodexo Live!, said it had taken the feedback 'seriously', noting that volumes will be increased to suit the needs of the athletes after noticing a 'very high demand for certain products'.

The Carrefour group, which is responsible for sourcing 600 tonnes of fresh produce for the Olympics, confirmed that it has been requested to revise upwards the quantities initially planned, which the group will be able to satisfy.
