Diver Brandon Loschiavo was added to Team USA in the individual 10-metre platform after another athlete pulled out. Loschiavo was informed Thursday, about 24 hours before the official start of the Paris Olympics, by World Aquatics that another berth had opened up.

Carson Tyler was set to make his Olympic debut at the big tower after his victory in last month’s trials at Knoxville, Tennessee won him the USA’s sole spot in the event. Tyler, who also qualified for individual springboard, withdrew at the last minute for reasons yet to be disclosed.

The 27-year-old, who finished second at the trials, now has the chance to compete at the Games for a second time. The California native competed in Tokyo 2020 and finished 11th on the platform.

Loschiavo will arrive on Saturday, missing the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, but giving him time to acclimate ahead of his event. The men’s 10-metre competition is set for 9-10 August: the final diving event of the Paris Games.
