Remco Evenepoel did it. Completing the historic TT-RR double and securing gold in Paris, he didn't just win for himself but also gave photographers a golden moment. His wide-eyed celebration under the Eiffel Tower is an image that will be remembered forever.

The 24-year-old became the first male cyclist to win gold in both the road race and time trial events at the same Olympic Games. Whilst he got his hands on the gold, photographers also struck gold too, which capped off a stellar day in cycling.

Paris, renowned for hosting the grand finale of the Tour de France, once again served as a breathtaking backdrop for this monumental event. The Belgian star launched relentless attacks in the final stages, conquering three ascents of Cote de la Butte Montmartre, leaving his competitors behind and securing his place in history.

With a finish over a minute ahead of his closest competitor, Evenepoel had ample opportunity to relish his triumph. He dismounted and celebrated with his arms raised in victory against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower. This unforgettable moment is set to be one of the standout highlights of the Games, epitomising the dominance of one of cycling's greatest talents.

“It’s probably the closest Olympics to my home that I will participate in, so to win both golden medals is pretty special and something I need to cherish for my whole life,” he told CNN. “Crossing the finish line, I realised I just became the double Olympic champion in one week, something I could only dream of.

"As a small kid, just watching the Olympics every four years, watching Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, all the big names, seeing them receiving the medals was just crazy, and now being there myself with two gold medals is really out of this world, and I need to realise that it’s very special. I am just very proud and very happy."

Hailing from Aalst, a town near Brussels and less than 200 miles from Paris, Evenepoel felt as if he had secured a victory on home turf, with Belgian flags lining the entire route. The closeness to home made his Olympic gold medal even more meaningful.

“I think there were more Belgians on the road than French people,” Evenepoel said. “It was a madhouse out there, and I think without all the support and the energy boost that it gave, it (the victory) was not going to be possible. I am very happy, and a big thank you to all the fans who came out for us.”

Evenepoel's celebration and snapshot is the latest addition to the prestigious Paris 2024 photo album. "Now I have a pretty unique picture for my Instagram," he said. "I remember the image of Michael Phelps in the past with all these medals around the neck, and now I feel a bit like him, so it's very special."

Gabriel Medina's 'mother nature' shot is another highlight. “That’s the picture of the Olympics,” a cameraman said when showing the shot of Medina. The power of Teahupo’o propelled the Brazilian into the air on the third day of surfing at Paris 2024.

Over the years, the three-time world champion has earned many nicknames, and today, “superman” is the latest addition. Captured by photographer Morgan Maassen during Medina’s third heat at the Olympic Games in Tahiti, the stunning image shows him soaring nearly to perfection. Despite signaling a perfect 10 to the judges, he scored a 9.90 on his second wave.

“Felt amazing to catch some good waves and almost get a 10,” Medina said. “Competing in waves like this at the Olympics is a dream come true. I’m thrilled to be part of this.”

Another moment for photography haven saw a selfie of North and South Korean table tennis players on the podium in Paris, which went viral, symbolising unity amid ongoing political tensions.

In the mixed doubles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, South Korea won bronze and North Korea silver, behind China. After the ceremony, South Korea’s Lim Jong-hoon snapped a photo with North Korea’s Ri Jong Sik and Kim Kum Yong, along with the Chinese champions, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha.

Taken with a South Korean Samsung phone, the viral photo of North and South Korean table tennis players on the podium highlights their national flags, as noted by JongAng Ilbo. This is North Korea’s first Olympic podium appearance since 2016, after missing the Tokyo Games due to Covid-19.

Lim Jong-hoon congratulated the North Korean athletes after the ceremony, stating, “I congratulated them when they were introduced as silver medallists.” South Korean broadcasters have repeatedly aired the selfie, with commentators praising its significance. “This is the true spirit of the Olympics,” remarked one commentator, emphasising the positive impact of this rare moment of unity amid ongoing tensions.
