Cameroon has not complied with the recommendations of measures made to combat doping, according to the diagnosis just made public by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Consequently, members of the Cameroonian organization will not be able to be elected to positions in WADA, nor to host any kind of sporting events (continental, world...) that WADA organizes or participates in, says the World Antidoping Agency.

Futhermore, Cameroon will not be able to provide independent or development observers to the global agency, will not receive any funding, and its flag will not officially be displayed. Compliance with these measures involves not only the country itself, but all those who have adhered to the international anti-doping standards, who will have to implement or monitor those measures, not being able to collaborate with Cameroon in championships or programmes.

Already last 12 July, this organization explained its Executive Committee warned of the situation in the fight against doping of the body responsible for it in this African country, the Organisation Camerounaise de Lutte contre le Dopage en Sport (Cameroon NADO).

The organisation confirms that it has failed to comply. The issue goes back several months: in March 2024, WADA approved the recommendation of the independent Compliance Review Committee (CRC) to add NADO (Cameroon's anti-doping body) to the watch list. This meant that the Cameroonian agency had an extra four months for its corrective action plan, to introduce the recommended anti-doping measures it had not yet added. This was concluded on the basis of the Code Compliance Questionnaire.

Failure to comply with those recommendations by that deadline would have consequences for Cameroon. And the deadline expired in July. So WADA sent a formal notification the day after that date expired, alleging non-compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code (and proposing consequences and conditions for reinstatement).

After that the NADO (the country's anti-doping agency) had 21 days to challenge these rulings. If it did not file such a challenge, it is understood that it admits that it does not comply with the measures.

The agency did not present that challenge, so in application of the regulations it is admitting that it did not comply with the anti-doping measures that had been recommended to it. And that also implies accepting the consequences and the conditions that will be imposed to restore normality.

The complexity of these procedures makes it necessary to inform the other signatories of the international anti-doping rules so that they can apply these consequences, as far as they are concerned.

At present, there are two other signatories that do not comply with the Code: the Russian Anti-Doping Agency and the International Federation of Fitness and Bodybuilding.
