The women's national volleyball teams of Brazil and the United States will face each other on Thursday, 8 August after winning in their respective quarterfinals on Tuesday while Italy will take on Türkiye in the other semi-final.

Brazil defeated the Dominican Republic 3–0 on Tuesday before the United States overcame Poland by the same score setting up a sem-final between the two victors.

For both volleyball teams, it will be a new opportunity to compete at the Olympic Games. The last time they played was in Tokyo, where Brazil and the United States reached the final, where American women were hit, so these semifinals also have a bit of a second round.

Brazil arrives in very good shape and with a lot of popular support, as was palped this Tuesday in the South Arena in Paris, with 10.000 people in public, most of them from Brasil

First Brazil defeated the Dominican Republic 3–0 getting a place in the semi-finals of the women’s volleyball competition of the Paris-2024 Games, where the South Americans struggled to conquer the gold that escaped them in Tokyo.

Seconds in the world ranking, Olympic champions in Beijing 2008 and London 2012, the Cariocas won the duel with a 25-17 in front of a crowd delivered with many compatriots. Gabriela Braga Guimaraes was the goalkeeper with 20 points, while Yonkaira Peña scored 12 for the Dominican women.

"This team very much deserves that place in the final," said Gabi, the Brazilian captain. "We came to look for the gold, we know what the process is, how difficult it is," he said, adding that the group had "the feet on the ground" to avoid excessive confidence.

The Dominican women again stumbled on the quarter-final barrier at the Olympic Games following quarter-final defeats in both London 2012 and Tokyo 2020.

On the other hand, the United States took another steady step with the 3-0 victory to Poland as Italy, number one in the ranking beat Serbia and Türkiye knocked out China in the first game of the day.

In the first round of the day in the French capital, the People's Republic of China, which had joined as the leader in zone A, failed to beat Türkiye and fell 3-2 to Melissa Vargas, who scored 42 points.

So, on Wednesday the semi-finals for men will be Poland-USA and Italy-France; and on Thursday for women Brasil-USA and Türkiye-Italia.
